

The women-focused coalition, established in October 2023, consists of 120 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs committed to promoting the women, peace, and security agenda in Sierra Leone. The coalition is made up of Community-Based Organizations, National Non-Governmental Organizations, and Networks. Its primary goal is to advance the women, peace, and security agenda in Sierra Leone in a cohesive and coordinated way. This includes mitigating conflicts and disputes at the community, district, and national levels, promoting women’s active participation in peace processes and governance structures.

Leveraging Collective Expertise and Mobilising Resources
Our coalition firmly believes in the power of collective expertise to drive meaningful change and advance the women,
peace and security agenda. By harnessing the diverse talents, knowledge and experiences of our members and
partners, we can create innovative solutions that address the unique challenges faced by women.
Approaches
4.1. Building Strategic Partnerships: We actively seek to foster strategic partnerships with like minded
organisations, institutions and stakeholders. Through our collaboration with government agencies,
international organsiations, civil society, academic institutions and the private sector, we thrive to pool
resources and expertise to achieve common goals.
4.2. Engaging Experts and Practitioners: We engage experts and practitioners from diverse fields to provide
valuable insights, guidance and support for our initiatives. By tapping into their expertise and knowledge, we
ensure that our programmes and policies are informed by best practices and innovative approaches.
4.3. Knowledge sharing and learning: We create platforms for knowledge sharing and learning, enabling
members and partners to exchange information, experience and ideas. Through platforms such as workshops,
conferences, online forums and webinars, we foster a culture of continuous learning and collaboration, thus
ensuring we stay at the forefront of women, peace and security.
Capacity Building – We strengthen the institutuional and technical capacity of coalition members and like
minded organisations at local, and national level enabling effective advocacy and mobilisation for women,

1.1. Training Sessions & Workshops: We organise training sessions and workshops to equip our members with
the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for women’s rights, peace and security. These sessions cover
critical topics including conflict transformation, leadership, gender mainstreaming.
1.2. Peer Learning and Networking: Our coalition fosters a culture of peer leaning and networking, providing
opportunities for members to share best practices, experiences, challenges and lessons. Through regular
meetings, webinars and conferences, we create a supportive environment where members can learn from
each other and collaborate on common goals.
1.3. Technical Assistance & Mentorship: We offer technical assistance and mentorship programmes to support
our members in implementing effective women, peace and security initiatives. Our experts provide guidance
of programming, finance, project design, monitoring and evaluation, procurement, advocacy strategies and
resource mobilisation.
1.4. Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns: We lead advocacy and awareness campaigns to promote the
women, peace and security agenda at local, national and international levels. Our campaigns aim to raise
awareness, influence policy and mobilise resources to support initiatives that empower women and enhance
security.
Community mobilisation – At the heart of our efforts to promote women, peace and security is the power of
community mobilisation. We believe that change begins at the grassroot level, and we work together to crate a

and empower community members to take collective action and drive meaningful change.

Approach
Our approach is based on the principles of collaboration, inclusion and empowerment. We use a variety of strategies to
mobilisation including:
2.1. Community meetings and dialogues: We organise regular community dialogues and meetings that create
spaces for open communication and discussion. These gatherings provide an opportunity for communities to
voice their concerns, share their experiences and contribute to decision making processes.
2.2. Awareness campaigns: We lead awareness campaigns to inform and educate community members about
key issues related to women, peace and security. Through these campaings we aim to challenge stereotypes,
address misconceptions and promote positive social norms.
2.3. Public Education Workshops: We conduct public education workshops to equip community members with
the knowledge and skills they need to take action. These workshops cover a range of topics including
leadership development, conflict resolution, advocacy strategies and more.
2.4. Community Action Plans: We work with communities to develop and implement community action plans.
These plans outline specific actions and intiatives that communitities will undertake to address their priority
issues and achieve their goals.
2.5. Partnerships and Alliances: We build partnerships and alliances with local organisations, institutions and
stakeholders to support our community mobilisation efforts. By working together, we can leverage resources,
share expertise and amplify our impact.

Policy Advocacy – Our coalition is dedicated to advocating for policies that promote women, peace and
security. We believe that effective policy advocacy contribute to creating lasting change thereby ensuring that
women’s voices are heard and valued in all aspects of peace and security. Through our advocacy efforts, we
work to influence policy makers, raise awareness and drive positive action towards an inclusive and equitable
Sierra Leone.
Why Policy Adocacy
We believe that policy advocacy is a powerful tool to drive systemic change and address the root causes of inequality
and insecurity. By advocating for policies that support women’s rights and participation in peacebuilding and security
processes, we have:
partner organisations to enhance their advocacy skills and effectiveness. This includes capacity building on
advocacy strategies, communication techniques and policy analysis as well as providing technical assistance
and mentorship.

and strengthen women’s roles in peace and security.
Women’s Participation: We advocate for women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding and security

Human Rights: We advocate for the protection and promotion of women’s human rights
Resource Allocation: We advocate for adequate resources and funding for women, peace and security initiatives.
Resource Mobilisation: Our coalition is dedicated to mobilising resources to advance the women, peace and
security agenda. We understand that achieving sustainable development not only requires strategic planning
and collective expertise but also adequate financial and technical resources. Through our resource mobilisation
efforts, we aim to secure the support needed to implement programmes and initiatives that are impactful in
empowering women and promoting peace and security.
Our Approach
Our approach to resource mobilisation is comprehensive and strategic, involving a range of activities designed to attract
and secure funding and support from diverse sources. This includes:
5.1. Fundraising campaigns: We organise fundraising campaigns to generate financial support for our
programmes and initiatives, targeting individuals, organisaitons, foundations and cooperations committed to
promoting women, peace and security.
5.2. Grant Proposal Development: We actively seek out and apply for grants from national and international
funding agencies. Our team of experienced grant writers develops compelling proposals that align with the
priorities of potential funders and demonstrate the impact of our work.
5.3. Collaboration: We build partnerships and collaborations with like-minded organisations, institutions and
stakeholders, By working together, we can leverage our collective resources and expertise to achieve greater
impact. These partnerships mostly involve resource sharing and co-funding arrangements.
5.4. In Kind Contributions: We seek in kind contributions from partners and supporters, including donations of
goods, services and technical assistance. These contributions are invaluable in supporting us in the
implementation of our programmes and initiatives effectively.
5.5. Corporate Sponsorship: We engage the private sector to secure corporate sponsorships for our activities
and events. By partnering with businesses that share our values, we partner with the private sector on
women, peace and security issues.
